Oh Honey!
Besides its role as a super sweet nectar, did you know honey has its place in medicine?
When applied to a wound, honey slowly releases hydrogen peroxide. How? The high pH and sodium levels of the skin activate glucose oxidase, breaking down glucose and releasing hydrogen peroxide. Honey’s high sugar content also has an osmosis effect on wounds: It draws lymph out to the cells while absorbing moisture and providing an anti-inflammatory action to reduce swelling and pain.
Manuka Honey from New Zealand is now being used for medical purposes because it seems to contain the most amount of healing properties than any other type of honey. It has even been shown to treat MRSA Staph infections.
Boom. Primal Chemistry.
