Stages in the life of a CrossFitter.
1. Oh Shit, what the hell have I gotten myself into?
This looks scary, and if you’re a dude, you can’t help but dwell on the fact that the girls in class with you are kicking your ass. *Get used to it boys- the ladies at 626 are no joke.
2. I like it. No, I LOVE it. Like seriously in love with this CrossFit thing.
You’ve told your co-workers, your mailman, even the lady at the grocery store how many pullups you did today, and how much you squatted yesterday. Your clothes are starting to fit looser and you find yourself flexing in the mirror for your significant other. You may even have pictures of ripped hands on your facebook profile by now.
3. CrossFit or BUST!
You’re no longer in love. You’ve drank the kool-aid by the pitcher and are officially obsessed. You’re eating paleo, think grains are the devil, and poo-poo those around you eating sugar-laiden Clif bars. You anxiously await your daily wods and dread when we’re closed on Sundays…and your google search history is full of CrossFit youtube videos, CF journal articles, and you drool over anything that says “ROGUE”.
4. Crash and Burn.
You’re tired. You’re frustrated. You haven’t PR’d in a couple months, and you feel like your fitness is going backwards. You’re no longer looking forward to the workouts like you used to, and you become a bit of a “grumpy pants”. You’re starting to feel some aches and pains and are irritated by the people in stage 2 or 3 constantly PR’ing. …And no, you can’t remember your last rest day, but rest days are for losers anyway.
5. Zen.
Once you’ve reached stage 5 you’ve come to an understanding with your mental strength, your physical capabilities, and your unique personal challenges. You relish in the ability to train with your friends every day, you eat healthy because you want to, and you’ve accepted the absolute importance of taking scheduled rest days. You train because you genuinely enjoy the journey…and you know it makes you a better person both inside and outside the gym.
