Mmmmmm.
New goodies available at the box: Quest Protein Bars!
[And yes, I’m doing a happy dance while posting this.]
Why the excitement? They’re damn tasty, and one of the cleanest protein bars I’ve found on the market. Don’t get me wrong, your best option for proper nutrition is always real food; however, when you’re in a pinch or need something quick, a clean protein bar or high quality protein powder is a great on-the-go option.
Available Flavors:
- Strawberry Cheesecake
- Cinnamon Roll
- Coconut Cashew
- Banana Nut Muffin
- Double Chocolate Chunk
To answer your question, no they’re not paleo, but in my opinion, they’re pretty darn clean. You can check out the main ingredients below yourself to decide if they’re something you’d like to add to your routine:
Protein Blend (Whey Protein Isolate, Milk Protein Isolate),
Isomalto-Oligosaccharides (100% Natural Prebiotic Fiber- aka: IMO): IMO is a fiber derived from plant sources that is very similar to the better known chicory root fiber, but with one minor exception: IMO does not cause any intestinal upset. IMO is categorized as a prebiotic: a non-digestible food ingredient that beneficially affects the host by selectively stimulating the growth and/or activity of one or a limited number of bacteria in the colon, that can improve the host health.
IMO is found to be effective at increasing the numbers of bifidobacteria and lactate and improve the intestinal microflora in general (increasing the good bugs, and decreasing the bad bugs in your gut), and therefore, is safe to categorize as a Prebiotic. IMO also has a low glycemic index and has been shown to reduce dental carries (cavities).
Quest Bar Sweeteners:
- Erythritol: almost non-caloric and about 60-70% as sweet as sugar. It’s the only sugar alcohol that doesn’t appear to cause gastrointestinal distress (because the body absorbs it rather than let it pass to the colon for fermentation), it doesn’t appear to affect blood sugar or insulin.
- Luo Han Guo (aka-Monk Fruit Extract): The plant is cultivated for its fruit extract as a sugar substitute, and has been used in China as a natural low-cal sweetener and in traditional Chinese medicine to treat diabetes and obesity.
- Stevia: an herb in the Chrysanthemum family which grows wild as a small shrub in many parts of the world. The glycosides in its leaves, account for its sweetness and it has been used as a sweetener in many countries for many years.
Bars are available for purchase and can be found next to the C2O and water at the front desk.
Price: $2.50/bar including tax.
