We are getting ready to place a large order for GrassFed beef directly from the farm- talk to Coach Brandon if you’d like to get in on the order.
What’s so special about Grass-Fed Beef?
Compared with grain-fed beef, grass-fed beef is:
- Lower in total fat (grass-fed meat has about the same amount of fat as skinless chicken or wild deer or elk.)
- Higher in vitamin E, B-vitamins, and beta-carotene
- Higher in the minerals calcium, magnesium, and potassium
- Higher in total omega-3s (Benefits of omega-3s include heart protection, reduced risk of depression, schizophrenia, attention deficit disorder, Alzheimer’s disease, and even cancer.)
- A healthier ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids
- Higher in CLA and vaccenic acid (which can be transformed into CLA)
Animal Welfare
If the nutritional benefits aren’t enough to sway your vote, grass-fed cows enjoy a much happier life out in the pasture grazing freely. Grain-fed cows tend to be housed in overcrowded feedlots eating out of a trough of grains that eventually cause gastric ulcers. Feeding a cow grains is so disturbing to the animal’s digestive system that it can kill the animal if not continually fed antibiotics. On feedlots, they are made to eat grain, primarily corn, in order to make them as fat as possible in a short amount of time to increase profits for slaughtering.
