For those of you who missed Mauricio’s post on facebook regarding his recent cholesterol labwork, this is a must read (be prepared to be inspired):
Ok this is too good not to share: my “real” victory:
On September 12,2011 I had a lipid panel (cholesterol) with these results:
Total Cholesterol 225 (elevated)
Triglycerides 184 (elevated)
HDL Cholesterol 36 (lower than the 39 recommended)
LDL 152 (elevated, <100 ideal).
Since then I have been trying to be more active, I joined Crossfit in December and just completed the Paleo challenge.
The following is the lipid panel that I took on the last day of the challenge (Feb-10-2012):
Total Cholesterol 175 (good)
Triglycerides 38 (good)
HDL Cholesterol 49 (good)
LDL 115 (still slightly above the recommended 100*).
I do not want to be “THAT GUY”, but hope this serves as motivation for those who, like me, struggled with high cholesterol.
Let’s break it down:
Triglycerides: Mauricio’s reduction in triglycerides is phenominal (his TG’s dropped by 80% with his lifestyle changes- Paleo diet, CrossFit, and quitting smoking).
HDL: Likewise, his HDL (good cholesterol) increased by 36% (and will continue increasing since he completely quit smoking only 3 weeks ago).
LDL: dropped 24%.
*Note- LDL tends to be a hot debate. LDL may not be a direct predictor of future heart disease afterall- the LDL particle size is more important (large fluffy =good; small dense=bad).
