“Three, Two, One…. GO!” Many of you have heard me yell this many times over the last two years. Normally there is a nervous anticipation of the strain of heavy weights, complicated gymnastics and pain as bodies will be pushed past their comfort level. As the year closes, this sentence takes on a new meaning for me. I have been struggling to make the time commitment of coaching every Monday night for the past few months and unfortunately will not be able to continue next year.
First as one of the original members and now as a coach, Crossfit 626 has always been about the people. You can get the methodology anywhere throughout the world at countless boxes, gyms and garages, but not the experience that I had. I call many of the members and coaches some of my best friends, having shared most holidays and many milestones with the people that I met through this community. I have no doubt that these are bonds that have grown from grinding through tough grueling workouts and achieving things that we did not believe were possible.
Thank you for inspiring me every week, I lived for the times that one of you would say “that felt so much better” or “I was able to do ____!” Often as coaches, our reward is not on the podium, but rather when people are able to move better, when things finally feel “right” or when one of you are able to achieve that one weight or skill that you have been going after for so long. Don’t get me wrong… you guys kick ass on the podium too! I apologize for struggling with your names, mispronouncing muscles and bones (I’m not in the medical field if that wasn’t apparent), and my somewhat awkward/inappropriate cues. I apologize for all the shoe talk, I just can’t help it.
I plan on dropping in for workouts with you as my schedule permits and know I will see many of you out and about in Pasadena as I always have. Please always remember to have fun and put in the work to make your weaknesses your strengths.
