From the words of Jay-Z, “I’m not a businessman. I’m a Business, Man.” With our 626 Nutrition Challenge underway, this is the perfect time to really take our process much more seriously.
Managing our bodies into fitness and health with a goal to thrive is very much being an entrepreneur. No one else will be responsible for the success and failure of our business – our body. That means we are our own investor, marketer, shipping & receiving, billing & finance, network promoter, etc. And our currency is food, recovery, energy, and exercise.
In 5 elements of entrepreneurship, we will relate to how we can apply this at the CrossFit box.
- Experimenting – whether you are seasoned or a new athlete, the opportunities of growth with skills is to experiment. We do this by learning a new skill or by polishing one to make our technique cleaner and more efficient… which leads to more poundage on the bar. Don’t be afraid to try new movement patters advised by your coach. This will be in large part of trying to get your mobility much better thru movement, not just the lacrosse ball and foam roller.
- Networking – this is where mentorship comes into play. Seasoned athletes who are proficient in what they do may offer help to newer athletes. And newer athletes have others to look up to and ask questions about their progress. Use your community wisely and help elevate each other. And as some of you may have seen, it may lead to fun times outside the box as well!
- Questioning – one of the biggest values we offer in CrossFit 626 is the wealth of knowledge and experience we bring into our community. The only bad questions are the ones that aren’t asked. Whether it’s technique or nutrition based, ask us! We are here to serve you and help you get to your goals ASAP!
- Association – again, the advantage of being a part of such a supportive community. As you discover your peers thru networking, associate yourself with those who may have similar goals, or even struggles, as you. This helps you become accountable. And it also adds an element of excitement to want to show up the next day.
- Observation – the key to success is to always establish *S.M.A.R.T. goals. Use these to ground your progress. Goals helps you stay motivated and gives you immediate feedback to what is working for you, and what isn’t. The sooner you realize things aren’t working for you, the faster you can change it up so you can start moving forward again.
Avoid the plateau. If you think you’ve reached one, remember that this process is always cyclical. There is no finish line. It’s all about progress, not perfection. Walk out better than when you walked in.
*Specific. Measurable. Attainable. Relevant. Time-bound.
